The Astra series from MHW 3Bomber uses all-metal materials as its base, combined with a dark color scheme. Improved electroplating technology enables the unique "obsidian" black color.
Tamping compacts the coffee grounds in the sieve to create a firm and uniform coffee cake with a smooth and even surface. Proper tamping avoids the channeling effect and ensures even extraction of the entire coffee grounds. This releases all the aromatic compounds from the coffee.
The Astra Impact Tamper is a pressure-controlled tamper with a preset pressure of 13.6 kg. When the preset pressure is reached, a mechanical signal sounds as feedback, and the tamper releases the pressure again. After several tests, MHW 3Bomber found that at a constant pressure of 13.6 kg, the extraction rate is almost the same for different powder quantities and different extraction times. The outer ring, which rests flat on the portafilter, ensures that the tamper is always pressed vertically downwards. The tamper is simply placed on the base and pressed down; the spring pulls the base back up.
This tamper fits perfectly on 58 mm portafilters.
Through repeated testing, MHW 3Bomber has determined that 58.5 mm is the perfect size for leveling tools and tampers. These fit snugly into 58 mm portafilters and reduce coffee grounds waste.
The tamper has an ergonomic handle and fits comfortably in the hand. The base also features concentric grooves, allowing more coffee grounds to come into contact with the water, resulting in better extraction.
The entire tamper is made of high-quality materials. The handle and center section are made of aluminum alloy, while the base and spring are made of stainless steel (SUS304). A spare spring is included.
The entire tamper can be disassembled and is therefore easy to clean.
With this tamper, perfect coffee extraction can be achieved when used correctly.
