Tamping compacts the coffee powder in the sieve to produce a firm and uniform coffee cake with a smooth and even surface.
Proper tamping avoids the channel effect and ensures even extraction of the entire coffee grounds. This releases all the aromatic compounds from the coffee.
This tamper is spring-loaded. The height of the tamper can be adjusted by turning the center section. It is recommended to adjust the height of the tamper to the amount of coffee grounds to achieve the smoothest possible finish. The outer ring, which rests flat on the portafilter, ensures that the tamper is always pressed vertically downwards. Simply place the tamper on the base and press down; the spring will slowly pull the base back up.
This tamper fits perfectly on 58 mm portafilters.
Through repeated testing, MHW 3Bomber has determined that 58.35 mm is the perfect size for leveling tools and tampers. These fit snugly into 58 mm portafilters and reduce coffee grounds waste.
This tamper has a flat and compact design, making it very handy. Additionally, the base features concentric grooves, allowing more coffee grounds to come into contact with the water, resulting in better extraction.
The entire tamper is made of high-quality materials. The handle (with walnut cap) and the middle section are made of aluminum alloy, while the base and spring are made of stainless steel (SUS304). The handle features a non-slip coating for a better grip.
The entire tamper can be disassembled and is therefore easy to clean.
